How to pick a TRT clinic in Virginia
Virginia has no shortage of TRT options. Telehealth companies, men’s health clinics, urologists, even your primary care doctor can prescribe testosterone. The problem isn’t access. It’s figuring out which option gives you actual physician oversight versus a prescription mill that checks a box and ships a vial.
What separates a good TRT clinic from a mediocre one
Six things matter more than anything else:
- Physician-led care: A licensed physician, not just an NP or PA, should be managing your treatment and reviewing your labs
- On-site lab work: Same-day blood draws and results mean you walk out with answers, not a follow-up appointment
- Transparent pricing: You should know what you’ll pay before treatment starts, not after
- Ongoing monitoring: Regular lab rechecks and dosing adjustments should be part of the program, not add-on charges
- Physical locations: In-person visits allow for a more thorough evaluation than a video call
- Certifications: LegitScript, CLIA lab certification, and HIPAA compliance tell you the clinic meets real standards
Virginia TRT clinic options
In-person clinics
Men’s Wellness Centers has three clinics in Richmond (Glen Allen), Newport News, and Virginia Beach. They’ve treated over 10,000 men since 2015. All care is led by Steven Papariello, MD. Labs are done on-site with same-day results, and they accept HSA/FSA. The practice is LegitScript certified.
Telehealth providers
Online TRT services like Hone Health, Peter MD, and Fountain TRT serve Virginia patients remotely. Monthly costs tend to be lower, but you’ll get less face time with a physician. Lab work is done at third-party facilities like Quest or LabCorp, which adds a step and usually a few days’ wait for results.
Urologists and endocrinologists
Going through the traditional healthcare system means insurance may cover some costs. The trade-off is longer wait times (often 4-8 weeks for a new patient appointment in the Hampton Roads or Richmond areas) and the need for a referral from your PCP.
Questions to ask any TRT clinic
- Is a licensed physician directly managing my treatment?
- Are labs done on-site or at a separate facility?
- What’s included in the monthly cost?
- How often will my levels be rechecked?
- What happens if I need a dosage adjustment?
- Is the practice LegitScript certified?
If a clinic can’t answer these clearly, that tells you something.
Which Virginia regions have the most TRT clinics
The highest concentration of TRT providers is in Northern Virginia, the Richmond metro area, and Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach, Newport News, Norfolk, Hampton). Men’s Wellness Centers covers Richmond and Hampton Roads with three physical locations. If you’re in Northern Virginia, telehealth may be your best bet unless you’re willing to drive to Glen Allen.
